Manglik dosha, explained
Manglik dosha (Mangal dosha, Kuja dosha) is raised when Mars sits in one of the houses tradition links with marriage and home life. The calculator above casts the chart from the Swiss Ephemeris under the Lahiri ayanamsa, finds Mars, and works out how strong the dosha is and what in the chart reduces it.
Am I Manglik? The houses that count
Mars in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house makes a chart Manglik. The houses do not weigh the same: the 1st and 7th count most, then the 8th, then the 4th and 12th. Some traditions also count the 2nd house, and the quick check inside kundli matching does; this calculator follows the five-house rule and weighs each house.
Counted from three places
The houses are counted from three reference points, and each one is shown separately:
- From the Lagna (the rising sign): the main reading, and the one that needs an accurate birth time.
- From the Moon: your emotional life and how you react.
- From Venus: love and the partner.
Manglik from all three is the strongest form; from one of them alone it is mild, sometimes called anshik (partial) Manglik.
What reduces Mangal dosha
Classical texts list conditions that soften or cancel the dosha. The calculator checks these, and the How it adds up button shows each one it found:
- Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn).
- Jupiter, Venus or Mercury joining or aspecting Mars.
- Jupiter in the 7th house or aspecting it.
- A strong 7th-house lord, a strong Venus or a strong Jupiter.
- The navamsa (D9) not repeating the placement.

What being Manglik means
Mars is energy, drive and courage. In these houses tradition reads it as intensity in close relationships: strong feelings, quick reactions and a need for space and honesty. It is one factor among many, not a verdict on a marriage. The dashboard also shows how strong Mars is in the chart and how it colours career, health, property and home.

How do I know if I am Manglik?
Enter your date, time and place of birth above. You are Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, counted from your Lagna, your Moon or Venus. The result shows which ones apply and how strong the dosha is.
Can a Manglik marry a non-Manglik?
Yes. Tradition prefers matching two Manglik charts, but a mild dosha, or one the chart itself reduces, is commonly not treated as a barrier. Many astrologers look at the whole match, not Mars alone.
Does Manglik dosha end at 28?
A popular belief says Mars matures at 28 and the dosha fades after it. Classical texts do not support this as a rule, so this calculator does not use it.
What is partial (anshik) Manglik?
Partial or mild Manglik means Mars is in a Manglik house from only one reference point, or the chart reduces its effect. The calculator shows this as a lower dosha strength.
