Reading a nakshatra

How deep can one star go?

A nakshatra is read in layers, by following a chain: the planet, the nakshatra it sits in, that nakshatra's ruling planet, the pada, and the navamsa sign the pada falls in. Each link adds detail to the one before.

Following one planet down the chain: the Moon in Rohini, pada 2.

Every nakshatra also carries its own set of traits: a presiding deity and a symbol that set its mood, a gana (temperament), a yoni (animal nature), a nadi (constitution), an element and a motivation (duty, wealth, pleasure or freedom). The 27 split evenly into these groups:

Gana and nadi: each is three equal groups of nine nakshatras. Both are used in marriage matching.

Nakshatras matter most for personality, for reading the Moon, for marriage matching, for the dashas, and for choosing a good time to start something (muhurta).

your Moon's nakshatra, gana and pada are in your profile card.
