Divisional charts (Vargas)
Which part of life, in close-up?
Cut every sign into equal parts and cast a new chart from the pieces, and you get a divisional chart. The D1 is the whole life. The D9 (Navamsa) is the most important close-up, for marriage and for how strong each planet really is. Others zoom in on one subject: D10 career, D2 wealth, D7 children, D24 education, D60 karma.
a camera with zoom. D1 is the wide shot of the whole landscape; each divisional chart zooms in on one tree.
The finer the cut, the faster that chart changes as the sky turns, so the more exact your birth time needs to be. A D1 is safe with a birth time that is roughly right. A D60 can change if your birth time is wrong by just two minutes.
The sixteen charts of Parashara
Parashara lists sixteen divisional charts, the Shodashavarga. Smaller sets are used for quick strength checks: the Shadvarga (6), Saptavarga (7) and Dashavarga (10). A planet's dignity across all of them is added into one score out of 20, its Vimshopaka bala.
