Wedding Muhurat Dates (Vivah Muhurta)

A vivaha muhurta is a time judged good for a wedding. A day qualifies when the Moon is in one of the eleven marriage nakshatras, the tithi is not a Rikta or Amavasya, there is no Bhadra, Vyatipata or Vaidhriti, it falls outside Kharmas and Chaturmas, and neither Jupiter nor Venus is combust.

Every good wedding day for the next 12 months in your city, each with the window of the day that passes every test.

Each window is the stretch of that day (sunrise to the next sunrise) in which every test passes. Almanacs and regions differ on a few rules, so confirm the date, and fix the exact time (the lagna), with your family's pandit.

How a wedding date is chosen

A vivaha muhurta is a stretch of time judged good for a wedding. Families first find the good days, then a pandit fixes the exact time within one of them, from the rising sign (lagna) at that place. This page does the first step for a whole year at once.

The tests each day must pass

  • Nakshatra: the Moon in one of the eleven marriage stars: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati.
  • Tithi: not a Rikta tithi (the 4th, 9th or 14th of either half), not Amavasya and not Shukla Pratipada.
  • Karana and yoga: no Vishti (Bhadra) karana, and not the Vyatipata or Vaidhriti yoga.
  • Season: outside Kharmas (the Sun in Sagittarius or Pisces, about mid-December to mid-January and mid-March to mid-April) and Chaturmas (Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi), and not in an Adhika (extra) month.
  • Jupiter and Venus: neither combust, that is, too close to the Sun to be seen (within 11° for Jupiter and 10° for Venus). Weddings pause during Guru and Shukra asta.

A day is listed when all of these hold for at least an hour between its sunrise and the next. The window shown is the longest such stretch.

Dates made for a couple

A date that suits everyone may still not suit a particular couple. Opened from a Kundli Matching result, this page also marks which days give both people good Tara Bala (the day's star not the 3rd, 5th or 7th counted from their birth star) and Chandra Bala (the Moon not in the 4th, 8th or 12th sign from their Moon sign). The other days stay listed with what is weak, because pandits weigh these checks: applied strictly to two people they can rule out a whole year.

Why lists differ

Published wedding calendars rarely agree on every date. Regions differ on which tithis and weekdays they accept, on how strictly they treat Chaturmas and combust Venus, and on whether a short window is enough. Use this list to shortlist days, then confirm the date and fix the time with your family's pandit.

Questions people ask

Which nakshatras are best for marriage?

Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati are the eleven traditionally used for weddings.

Why are there no weddings in Kharmas or Chaturmas?

Tradition avoids weddings while the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces (Kharmas) and during Chaturmas, the four months from Devshayani to Devuthani Ekadashi. The season reopens after Devuthani Ekadashi in Kartika.

Can we choose a date without our kundlis?

Yes: the general list is the same for everyone. Opened from your Kundli Matching result, the page also marks the days that give both of you good Tara Bala and Chandra Bala.

Is this the exact muhurta time?

No. It finds the good days and the window within each. The exact time, set by the rising sign at the venue, is fixed by a pandit.
